|Overview||NetComposites develops and commercialises new composite materials. The company is active in applied research, development and consultancy, and has a strong presence in web-based information, all in the field of composite materials. NetComposites is well-known for its insight into emerging technologies in composites, and has undertaken studies into the future of the industry for the UK Government, European Commission and private companies. NetComposites chairs the Steering Group of the Network Group for Composites in Construction (NGCC) which represents the composites in construction industry globally and unites its members in one body. Its membership covers all sectors of the industry. NetComposites also organises and runs the Advanced Composites in Construction conferences.|
|People||Edwin Stokes C.Eng (Project Manager) Fourteen years' experience in engineering consultancy and the composites industry. He studied Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Bath before joining Arup, where he specialised in the use of composite materials for building applications. He joined NetComposites in 2011 managing projects on the use of composites in construction and is the industrial supervisor for a PhD student at the University of Sheffield.
Joe Carruthers PhD C.Eng (Operations Director). Eighteen years' experience in composites development. Prior to joining NetComposites he was in charge of the full scale test facilities for NewRail - The Centre for Railway Research at Newcastle University. He has managed a number of technicians, PhD students & postdoctoral researchers.
|Key Research Activities||
NetComposites has pilot scale facilities for a number of composite manufacturing processes; including a pre-pregging line, liquid resin infusion equipment and heated hydraulic presses for compression moulding. They are also investing in a pultrusion line which will be operational by the end of 2013.
